 | Music composer Amin Bhatia is taking a moment from his very busy schedule to count his blessings and his Gemini Awards. Nominated for three awards, with two in the same category, Amin maxed out his possible winnings with two Geminis given by the Academy of Canadian Film and Television. The evening of November the 18th was even more special as Amin Bhatia was given the honor of awarding his friend and mentor David Greene with the Academy Achievement Award for his outstanding and ongoing contribution to the Canadian television industry. Amin Bhatia won for Best Original Music Score for a Program or Mini-Series for the psychological suspense thriller "In The Dark" ( Shaftesbury ); and again for Best Original Music Score for an Animated Program or Series for the funny and darkly humorous "King" (Decode) along with co-composer Ari Posner. Amin was also nominated for a third award for the sweet and imaginative "Franny's Feet" (also Decode) with co-composer Meiro Stamm. |
"The 2003-2004 year was nuts for me" Amin recalls. "Both crazy and fun. All three projects were running simultaneously. The technicalities and schedules were as difficult as the writing of the music, and without Ari and Meiro it would have been impossible. I'm so glad we were all nominated for our respective contributions." |
| You can visit the Academy site to see some pictures of the momentous evening. Amin Bhatia's fascination with both music and electronics won him international fame in his youth. After winning the Roland International Synthesizer competition two years in a row, the resulting exposure launched Bhatia's music career. It led to projects with David Foster ("The Best of Me"), Steve Porcaro (Toto's fifth album "Fahrenheit"), and a synth-orchestral solo album on Capitol Records' Cinema label titled The Interstellar Suite. Since those early days Amin has matured his style to a progressive blending of real players and orchestral instrumentation with electronic beats and synthesizers. Amin¹s approach in both his film and television projects has been likened to the harmonic inventiveness of Jerry Goldsmith and the technical prowess of Hans Zimmer. |
| The Gemini Awards is a three day event presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television with the gala broadcast on Global Television. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the prestigious awards showcasing Canadian television production and talent.
